ORISON FOUR

Created with a variety of papers including pigmented overbeaten abaca from Morgan Paper Conservancy, ink, colored pencil, linen, thread, copper, wood, plastic and leather.
It is housed in a custom drop spine box. Orison is a word for prayer. It is also the name of a series of works I began during the Covid-19 pandemic.
During the hours spent reading, I sometimes come across a string of words that so exactly describes my own thoughts, I use them instead. Such as the case with Orison Four.
The text is inspired by a character in Julia Glass’ 2022 novel Virgil Harbor. An architect who has been asked to design a residential bunker for a wealthy client states, “I want to believe that we can all go on living with our faces to the light, no matter what comes our way.”
