Title: Arsenic Green: Piano Serving

2019, Crochet thread, laser-cut acrylic, re-purposed plate frame, 12" x 12"

The title of this piece, Arsenic Green, refers to the color derived from arsenic that was used in Victorian times to color everything from wallpaper to textiles. In their quest for beautiful and stylish interiors, many Victorians became sick and died from the outgassing of arsenic fumes. It was such an exquisite way to kill oneself unintentionally, and such a physical manifestation of death by domestic vanity, and the danger that lies below the surface of the well-presented home.
