Adaptation and Resilience

Adaptation and Resilience Art Call Submission link

“Adaptation and Resilience” is an art and poetry exhibit at Front Porch Gallery that celebrates the ways artists learn to overcome and innovate in spite of adversity and through sheer force of will strive to keep creating. Southern California has suffered a population wide grieving at the staggering losses accumulating from the Los Angeles fires. The loss of lives, homes, businesses and jobs, the devastation to the cultural environment that Los Angeles was to the world. As a population many people fear of future environmental catastrophes, are concerned for political stewardship, and have lost the direction of hope. This is when the arts are the most vital tool we have to advance mankind: to show a way forward, to be creative, to be compassionate, to be outspoken and contentious. As a creative – how do you overcome adversity? How do you adapt to the loss of youth, the loss of mobility, the isolation of illness? How do you rise above the outrage of daily disaster, dashed hopes and destruction?  How do you keep the fires of your spirit burning for another day in the hope of creating connection?

How do you creatively respond to being alive right now? That is the question time asks of every artist. Show us through your creative work how you adapt to an imperfect world, and how your resilience lights your way.

Front Porch Gallery invites you to submit 2 pieces of work to be considered for our next exhibit.

All mediums from fiber, painting, collage, assemblage, sculpture, light, digital and classic photography are encouraged. Please no giclees, no AI, and all work must be original.

As part of your submission, you have the opportunity to write up an Artwork Statement about your piece/pieces of art describing your relationship to the theme of Adaptation and Resilience. We want to focus on the ability, creativity and courage it takes to adapt. We’ll host opportunities for local residents to respond to your work through making, discussing, and viewing programs. Through shared creative engagements we will support each other.
