Jacqueline Bridge

QUEEN NZINGA AND DE SOUSA MBANDE

She is an African warrior queen who fought against the Portuguese and their expanding slave trade in Central Africa. She was educated and cultured, speaking both her native tongue and Portuguese. She ruled over the Ambundu Kingdoms of Ndongo and Matamba, located in present-day Angola.

The figure is made of clay and mixed media. The book covers are composed of fused glass. The first and last folios are within paper that I hand painted.
